Authorisation

Businesses that provide claims management services must be authorised, exempt or subject to a waiver.

The Who needs to be authorised under the Compensation Act 2006 Guidance Note provides a brief overview of the regulatory requirements, addressing the question of authorisation, in particular.

The application form can be found in the Application Area

The Completing the Application Form Guidance Note helps businesses through the application process. Businesses are advised to print them off and refer to them when completing the application form.

Some businesses may need to be authorised only to run off existing business. The Guidance Note Authorisation to enable existing business to be concluded gives guidance to such businesses.

The application form must be accompanied by a cheque for the application fee. This is £400 for businesses with a turnover of less than £0.5million, £600 for businesses with turnover between £0.5 and £1 million and £800 for businesses with a turnover of more than £1 million. If the application is in order an invoice will be issued for the annual fee, in accordance with a scale beginning at £400. The fee scale and guidance on the way in which turnover must be calculated are available in the Completing the Application Form Guidance Note. Full details are set out in the Fees Rules 2007.

Applications must be made on the Claims Management - Application for Authorisation Form prescribed by the Regulator. Businesses can either –

  • Print off and complete the application form manually.
  • Telephone 0845 450 6858. Staff in the Monitoring and Compliance Unit will complete the form as far as they can and then post for completion.
  • Complete the form online, print it out, sign it and return it to the Monitoring and Compliance Unit. This is the preferred method as the form is self-checking to a large extent.

Completed forms and the cheque for the application fee should be sent to:
